Sulochana Sethi, Chairperson & President. Born in Lumbwa and grew up in Kisumu, Kenya. Studied in Kisumu girl’s high school and Convent of Jesus & Mary in Dehra Dun. Sulochana is a very active community worker, who has lived in Harrow since 1972. She continues to serve and be an active member of many cultural organisations including the Arya Samaj, International Lions, Sachkand Nanak Dham and till recently the Sardar Patel Society of London. She is one of the founder members of Vedicca London, promoting Vedic culture and values. She is always finding opportunities to bring communities together by providing many services for the health and wellbeing of all. She is an active member of a global spiritual organisation that promotes love, peace and unity on earth.
Rajni Jagpal, Treasurer. Born in Kisumu, Kenya. Arrived in England in 1968 for further studies. One of the founding members of Vedicca London, who has been instrumental in seeing the organisation change and grow. In her spare time from being a full-time accountant, Rajni enjoys knitting, quilting and practising yoga.
Sangeeta Bhandari, Volunteer and Yoga therapist. A yoga educator and therapist, fully certified, her experience spans over a decade teaching in Hong Kong, Mumbai, Ireland, France and London. A Masters’ graduate from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), having found her calling later in life as a yoga instructor, Sangeeta teaches in the lineage of Krishnamacharya, known as the father of modern yoga. She firmly believes the gift of yoga is for all along any path, and her role as the sharer of this knowledge, is to ensure it is accessible to everyone. Sangeeta is a champion for MIND of Harrow, works with various charities, corporates offering stress management workshops and sessions, individuals in groups or for therapy sessions 1-2-1, and has done a lot of work with cancer survivors, adults with mental health issues, diabetes, pregnancy yoga and more.
Kanta Shah, Joint Secretary. Kanta enjoys her retirement spending time with her grandchildren, meeting new people and reading. To acknowledge her long volunteering service with Harrow Mind, she was invited to attend the Volunteers’ Service Reception at Buckingham Palace in 2016. Kanta was born and brought up in Mombasa, taught high school children there before moving to the UK in 1971 where she worked as Post Office Branch Manager for 36 years.
Bharti Mehta, Membership Officer. Born and brought up in Kampala, Uganda. In 1968, married Kumud and settled in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. As a teenager her favourite sport was netball. Currently, she enjoys cooking feasts for friends and family and trying out new recipes. Moved to London in 2008, to be closer to her children and spend quality time with her six grandchildren. Enjoys meeting new people that led her to join a number of social clubs of which Vedicca London is the one she has built a strong connection with. She teaches Gujarati and aims to make this organization more enjoyable and unique for its members.
Jyoti Bhavisha, Joint Treasurer. Born, brought up and educated to BA in Economics in India. Now lives in Barnet working as a pharmacist in Prima Pharmacy. Became a part of Vedicca London as it amalgamated with Dosti group as one family. Enjoys the multitalented and multifaith members of this organisation. Also enjoys the different activities the club offers every week. In her free time Jyoti likes to sew.
Jyoti Shukla, Joint Secretary. Born in Kampala, Uganda. After retiring from the airline industry, Jyoti is now a full-time wife, mum and grandmother to 5 gorgeous kids. She loves to cook, dance, travel, generally make people smile, and create great memories! She is passionate about keeping our community connected, through fun activities and creating a supportive network where everyone can feel a part of something special. Her role on the committee allows her to be part of the team that makes that happen! Having worked for British Airways for over 40 years across several roles, she has gained skills in organisation, team building, and networking. She brings these skills to the committee and our community, and is pivotal in creating wonderful memories for all our members.
Jagdish Kapur, Welfare Officer. Jagdish Kapur is a graduate with a background in Information Technology. Jagdish has worked for numerous blue chip organisations in Kenya, USA and UK. Born in Kenya, he came to the UK in 1976. On retirement, he has undertaken various volunteering roles. These have included a trustee of Pinn Medical Centre’s Patient Organisation, an HNS responder supporting members of the public during COVID and delivering learning to socially excluded members of the society. With his ability to connect and engage with people from diverse backgrounds, and as a member of the Vedicca's Management team, he hopes to give back to the community and contribute to the ongoing development of the organisation. Jagdish enjoys keeping up with current affairs, travelling, sport and music.
Monica Nayar, Volunteer. Monica took early retirement at the age of 56 years from Siemens financial services to look after her ailing husband. Born in Batala, India. Been in the UK since 1972. She has two grandchildren who keep her busy. Monica loves to socialise and go on holidays. She is keen to pick up the social tempo of her life having spent a number of years as a carer. She enjoys meeting people, making them smile and helping wherever she can. She is looking forward to bringing these qualities to Vedicca.
